A card scraper is arguably one of the simplest of tools, but also one of the most versatile. A scraper is just a thin piece of flexible steel, but when properly prepared, can do everything from remove paint, shape wood and refinine finishes and everything in between. They have a place in power and hand tool shops alike. These Accu-Burr card scrapers are made in the USA by Union Manufacturing and are the finest available.
They are machined from 1095 spring steel that has been hardened and tempered to a Rockwell hardness of 48 to 51. This is the prefect hardness to allow the tool to flex, for hooks to be easily formed and for hooks to last a long time. Hooks can formed with any hardened steel or carbide burnisher, but our preference is to use an Accu-Burr burnisher which turns a quick, consistent hook on both edges at once. Both long edges are surface ground to 90 degrees, and both faces have been polished, so no preparation is needed before creating a hook. Surface ground edges and polished faces allow these scrapers to be used without a hook for very fine scraping. Both flat faces have been blued for corrosion resistance.
The overall size is 2-1/2’ X 6” and .025” thick, so they flex easily, provide excellent control , and are easy on the thumbs.
Each scraper comes with a .050” thick flexible magnet that is attached to the back and acts as a heat sink to dissipate heat during heavy and prolonged scraping sessions.
The tool is packed in a paper coin envelope that protects it’s delicate edges when stored in a drawer or cabinet.
